Maypug P1 mini projector: 4K support and buying checks

Considering the Maypug P1 mini projector? Check native resolution, room fit, smart-app compatibility and connection options before buying.

Based on WhatAFind’s Instagram posts and product information. Not a hands-on review.

A movie-night find with a few questions to settle

A small projector can be an appealing way to try a larger picture without making a television the centre of a room. The Maypug P1 linked in our Instagram post has a cylindrical body and a pivoting stand. Its listing advertises smart apps, Wi-Fi 6 and automatic keystone correction. Those features make it worth a closer look, but they do not establish how sharp, bright or quiet it will be in your room. This guide examines the linked listing; it is not a hands-on review.

Which projector does the reel link to?

The caption's Amazon Canada link opens ASIN B0DCFBYG99, identified on the retailer page as Maypug, model P1. The reel shows a white cylindrical projector in a tilting stand, consistent with the general form pictured in that listing. A model label was not visible in the inspected video frame, so the caption link is the basis for this identification. Check the selected product, seller and included accessories when ordering, since listings and offers can change.

Does 4K support mean a native 4K picture?

Not by itself. Supported input resolution describes the signal a projector can accept; native resolution describes the pixel grid it actually displays. The title advertises 1080P/4K support, while the summary table lists 1920 × 1080 as display resolution and promotional graphics use support wording. That combination is not enough to confidently describe this model as native 4K or to resolve its native panel specification. Ask for the P1 manual or a clear native-resolution specification before paying extra for the resolution claim. We have not measured sharpness or compared it with a television.

Check your room before choosing a screen size

The listing advertises a picture from 40 to 130 inches, but its screen-size graphic also contains a 35-inch label and placement figures that need clarification. Do not plan furniture placement around those graphics alone. Measure the space between the intended projector position and viewing surface, then obtain a throw-distance chart for this exact model. We did not verify an ANSI brightness figure. Without that or an independent brightness test, we cannot promise a usable picture in daylight or at the largest advertised size. A return policy matters if you need to judge it in your own room.

What automatic keystone correction can tell you

Automatic keystone correction is advertised, and one graphic specifies ±15 degrees. Treat that as a listing claim, not a tested adjustment range. It does not establish autofocus, sharpness across the picture or freedom to place the projector at any angle. Start with a stable position facing the viewing surface as directly as practical, and check the manual for focus controls, tilt limits and ventilation clearance. Confirm how much adjustment is available at your planned position before relying on a bedside shelf or an unusually low table.

Verify the apps you actually watch

The retailer promotes built-in apps and displays streaming-service logos. A logo alone does not verify current app support, certification, playback resolution or whether your subscription will work through the built-in software. Ask specifically about the services you use in Canada and how updates are delivered. The summary table also lists HDMI, USB and a 3.5 mm connection. Confirm each port's role in the manual: USB does not automatically mean phone video input, and Wi-Fi does not guarantee that every phone app can cast protected content. If you plan to use a TV stick, check HDMI compatibility and its separate power requirements.

The useful buying decision

This is a candidate for someone exploring a compact projector with a tilting stand and advertised smart features. Before ordering, settle native resolution, brightness evidence, room placement, streaming compatibility, power requirements and included accessories. Do not assume a built-in battery simply because the listing calls it portable. The current price, delivery options and returns are on the linked retailer page. WhatAFind has not tested picture quality, fan noise, connection reliability or long-term app support; those remain open questions rather than promised results.
